Queen Elizabeth II | Project Management | Monarchy | Governance
God Save the PM
Royal lessons for Project Managers
Despite the commotion and the grandiose rituals that will accompany the next days, I am impressed by the feeling of normality that shows through many small signs in the transition from one Queen to the next King. This quiet, assured sense of a natural transition is so foreign to those who are familiar with the turmoil that characterises all changes of government in a republic.
Minutes after the official statement, this was in the news:
It is expected Charles will hold his first audience with the prime minister some time today.
Consider this message from the European Commission: after a couple of hours, the late Queen Elizabeth II is “Your Majesty’s mother”.
The sense of stability conveyed by such smooth transitions must have been particularly manifest when the power of the monarchs was much more extensive, but a very evident trace of it remains nonetheless.
